Monticello City Council Meets
The Monticello City Council met last night (Monday) and heard the first
reading of the budget ordinance for the 2010-11 fiscal year. Total
appropriations for the general fund in the budget are 1,865,955. The budget
is very similar to the one the city is currently operating under. It keeps
funding levels for next year nearly the same as this year.
This budget reflects a large number of capital projects that the city
has received funding for next year. The total budget for capital projects is
approximately $24 million. This includes an $11.2 million project at the
water treatment plant and an $8.6 million project at the waste water
treatment plant.
Since it was a first reading, no action was required by the council.
In other action during the meeting, the council approved the second
reading of an ordinance amending the budget for 2009-2010 and also a
resolution authorizing a joint application by the city and the county for
Community Development Block Grant funding for a Microbusiness Project.
They also approved the reappointment of Gene Jones to the
Monticello-Wayne County Industrial Authority and the reappointment of
Juanita Allen to the Monticello Utility Commission.
