The Monticello Board of Education took action last night (Monday) to divide
the divide the school back into an elementary school and a middle and a high
school with two principals. The elementary school will include preschool
through fifth grade, while the middle and high school will include sixth
through 12th grade. The school operated under two principals until five years ago, when it changed to the the current one principal and one asst. principal setup.
Superintendent Donnie Robison said steps are currently being taken to
seat site based council for each of the schools. Elections for teacher
members on each of the councils have already been held and parents will
be elected soon.
In other action during the meeting, the board agreed to purchase new
uniforms for the cheerleaders. The uniforms will cost $5,554.50 and the
board will be pay for everything with the exception of the shoes.
The board approved tentative allocations for the school council, which
are the same as last year. They approved the recommended bid for the
purchase of cameras for school buses at a cost of $24,780. They also set
salaries for the 2010-11 school year at the same rate as the current school
year. The school board also approved named the gym, the Joe Harper Gymnasium.
