The Wayne County School District is pleased to announce that Brian Dishman, a Wayne County High School Science Instructor, has been hired to fill the principal vacancy at the local high school. The post was vacated by former Principal Peggy Shearer, who recently retired after serving the high school both as a Language Arts teacher and principal for a total of 28 years.
“We look forward to seeing Mr. Dishman lead Wayne County High School in the future. He offers a variety of instructional talents and interest in student’s accomplishments,” said Wayne County Superintendent John Dalton.
Dishman, a former Wayne County High School graduate has demonstrated strong instructional leadership skills since he returned home in 2005. He previously taught Biology at Berea Community High School for two years.
Dishman most recently served as the chairman of the Wayne County High School Improvement Committee. He did an outstanding job developing a vision, creating an operational plan and building a consensus among the school community through effective communication with the faculty, students and parents.
Besides his strong teaching skills in the classroom, Dishman has been involved in a variety of extra-curricular opportunities for students. He served as a visual assistant with the high school marching band, served as a Science Olympiad coach, and co-sponsored the FCA Huddle.
Dishman and his colleagues will face many exciting challenges in education this school year with the change to block scheduling, establishment of a freshman academy and the emergence of new national content standards. However, Dishman is extremely qualified to lead his alma mater and provide a quality education for the students at Wayne County High School.
Dishman’s strong academic career makes him an outstanding role model for students. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Eastern Kentucky University and received 4.0 grade point averages while achieving both his masters’ degree in instructional leadership and rank 1 in school district administration. His accomplishments after being named teacher of the year at Berea Community High School in 2004, a member of Phi Sigma Biology Honor Society and EKU’s Outstanding Senior in Biology in 2002 demonstrates his sincere commitment to his chosen educational field.
