Monticello Utility Commission Board meets

In what was a regular monthly session of the Monticello Utility Commission with regular business transacted, at the end of the meeting, Chairman Sam Brown read a statement touting the accomplishments of the board while he has been Chairman, Brown then dropped a bombshell, stating he has been asked to resign by the Monticello City Council. Brown did resign his position as Chairman and member of the Utility Commission Board.

Brown said after the meeting he was asked to resign at a meeting at City Hall earlier this week. Following Brown’s resignation, Jamie Raegan, who is also on the City Council and Utility Commission Board, told the Utility Board she was not among those on the Council who requested the resignation.

In action taken at the meeting, the Board, set a new vacation schedule for employees, decided to use federal guidelines for their Employee Drug Policy concerning the legal use of Medical marijuana.

The Board voted to pay the City $4000 a month for 36 months to cover three monthly payments that were missed before the City raised the Water and Sewer rates charged by the Commission.

In the Financial report for February, the Commission had $545,496 in revenues, and $563,982 in expenses.

Utility Manager Scott Upchurch told the Board Spring Flushing of Water lines will begin Monday, March 17.
