MPD arrests Albany man after he instructs 13 year old son to push a cart out of Monticello Wal Mart without paying for items

Jonathan Carlton, 32, of Albany, was arrested Saturday (Apr 19) at 2:29 p.m. in the Cumberland Crossing Center by Major Josh Asberry.

Carlton was charged with Abandonment of a Minor, Unlawful Transactions with a Minor and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

Carlton is accused of placing various items of merchandise in a shopping cart and instructing his 13-year-old son to push the cart out of Walmart without paying for any of the items. Carlton left the store prior to the attempted push-out. His son was caught by a Walmart Loss Prevention Officer and police were then notified.

Carlton was located nearby in the Cumberland Crossing Center by Major Asberry and taken into custody. He was processed and lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center. (Info from MPD)
