The Monticello City Council met last night for their second monthly session of February with all members and Mayor Kenny Catron present.
Most of the hour plus meeting was held hearing a presentation by Kentucky League of Cities representatives discussing the role of, and how City Government works,
The Council heard two first readings of Ordinances, that if passed would change the way the City receives revenues. A proposed Insurance Premium Tax raise of from 6% to 12 % was heard, as was a Water Rate Ordinance dropping base water rates $6 a month for City residents, City Businesses and those who live outside the City limits who are on City water. The Insurance Premium Tax is levied on any insurance paid on Homes, Vehicles, Motorcycles, businesses, and personal property in the city limits.
Councilman Alan Vaughn presented the Ordinances, telling the Council, if passed, the Revenue the Insurance Tax would bring in would allow the City to not have to collect its monthly $47,500 from the Monticello Utility Commission. Last night’s reading of the Insurance Tax Raise and Water Rate drop were first readings only, and a possible second reading and vote would come at the March meeting of the Council
