The Monticello City Council met Monday in regular session with all members and Mayor Kenny Catron presiding.
The Ordinance to double the Insurance Premium tax on City Residents and businesses died for the lack of a second. Councilman Alan Vaughn who promoted the Ordinance made a motion to take a vote on the measure but it died due to the lack of a second. The Water Rate reduction Ordinance, which was an adjoining bill to the Insurance raise also died due to the lack of a second.
The Council heard a second reading of the lengthy Ethics Ordinance update, and after a long discussion also voted it down 4 to 2. Council members Vaughn and Cody Dishman voted in favor of the Ordinance, with Tracy Sexton, Chaplin, Alan Hopper and Jamie Ragan voting no.
With an open position on the Monticello Utility Commission, Alan Denney was appointed as Member and Chairman of the Board. Donnie Sexton was also appointed to the position currently held by Cody Dishman.
The Council voted 6 to 0 to abolish the Utility Oversight Committee.
In the Alcohol Beverage report, Alcohol sales in the City were $240,150 for the Month of January with $11,475 in fees collected.
