Monticello-Wayne County Parks & Recreation Board met in regular session Tuesday
evening with Chairperson/Mayor Kenny Catron, and members Jeff Sexton, Tracie
Sexton, Melinda Wixson, and Ruben Lee present. Vice Chairperson/Judge Executive
Scott Gehring and board member Wade Dick were absent. Recreation director Shane
Blevins was present.
Board approved lighting replacement at the park consisting of 94 LED Gen 4 lights and
materials from Lyons Plumbing & Electric Supply at a cost of $19,863. The labor will
be completed by Double T Electric at a cost of $10,880. This brings the total project
costs to $30,734.
Board agreed to pay an invoice from Seal Master Pavement Products of Indianapolis, IN
in the amount of $2,975 for filling in cracks in the basketball court.
Director Blevins told the board the first ever Challenger League is planned this year at
the park for anyone with a handicap that is between the ages of 4 and 18. He said more
information and a sign up window will be announced soon.
In Director Blevins report:
- Storm clean up continues due to drainage issues when heavy rains occur.
- Pool cover installation has been delayed due to weather and maintenance issues.
With the opening 2025 season so close, the cover will be stored and installed in
the fall. - Testing is ongoing to determine if the pool lift chair is still operational, and if so,
what is the most efficient type of battery for the pool lift chair. - Date conflict has arisen with the girl’s youth softball tournament with a potential
new date to be announced in the future. - Researching grant possibilities for trail handrails and park benches with 560 feet
of handrails needed. - Lions Club has agreed to purchase two benches for the park
