On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, Nina completed her earthly mission and received her wings. Nina was born on August 5, 1937 to the late Obie and Ada Sloan. She was united in marriage to the late George A. Cowan Sr. for fifty-six years and together they had nine children.
Nina is survived by her children; Frances(Kay) Allen, Alice Perkins, Phyllis(Jeff) Grinstead, Mitchell (Kelly) Cowan and Ada Waddle; grandchildren; Deanna(Cavin) Patton, Crystal Berry, W.K. Allen, Kayla Allen, Jakale Cowan, A’Kedra Law; five great-grandchildren, two sisters (Mary Ann Venable, Jo Sloan), five brothers (Johnny, Wayne, James(Lorene), Terry and Andy(Duchess) Sloan); sister-in-law, Shirley Cowan; as well as host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 5 PM – 8 PM in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 1 PM at the Hickey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion A.M.E. Cemetery.
