Parks And Recreation Board Meets

The Monticello Wayne Co. Park Board met Monday evening, July 28, and received updates on several ongoing improvement projects, upcoming community events, and park operations.

Mayor Kenny Catron called the meeting to order. Board members Melinda Wixson, Wade Dick, Jeff Sexton, and Barrett Hutchinson were present. Tracie Sexton was absent. Also attending were Recreation Director Shane Blevins, City Clerk Sydney Parmley, and County Deputy Judge Peggy Baker.

During his report, Blevins said updated quotes have been received for new gym mats. He noted the selected vendor is unable to include logos because of previous issues, and additional options will be explored.

Blevins also reported that the tennis court resurfacing project is progressing, with the courts sealed and posts being installed. The project is expected to be completed by the end of next week, weather permitting. He added that the pool pumps are operating well.

Members also discussed future maintenance needs, including sealing and restriping the Aspire Center parking lot and making repairs to the basketball court. Renting equipment for the work was considered.

Blevins reported that the softball season has concluded, soccer registration remains open through the end of August, and Senior League baseball is underway.

Blevins noted that two additional security cameras are still needed at the park.

In new business, City Clerk Sydney Parmley presented the board with the June bills analysis report, receipts register, and monthly financial statements. No discussion followed the financial presentation.
