Wayne County Library Board meets

The Wayne County Public Library Board met in regular session Wednesday
afternoon with Chairperson Sandra Riddle presiding. Board members Barbara
Turpin, Katina Shearer, Ashley Thompson, and Wanda Gregory were present,
along with Library Director Logan Anderson.

The board discussed ongoing efforts to change the library’s managed IT vendor, a
transition that has delayed improvements to the library’s online presence. Director
Anderson said she will meet for the final time with the current service provider on
Thursday. The new vendor, Structured, Inc. of Lexington, is expected to begin
coordinating with Anderson early next week to take over the project.

Anderson also announced plans for the library’s first-ever free Valentine’s Day
pancake breakfast, scheduled for Saturday, February 14. The event will be open to
couples, families, and anyone wishing to attend, and will run from 9 a.m. to 11
a.m., or while supplies last. Board members expressed full support for the new
event.

Additionally, Anderson presented a proposal for a “comfort cabinets” program at
the library and on the bookmobile. The program, which is becoming more
common in libraries, would offer items such as baby wipes, feminine hygiene
products, lotions, soaps, tissues, and other personal care items for patrons. The
board approved moving forward with the initiative.

In other business, the board:

  • Heard a financial report from Anderson showing a total cash balance of
$2,443,418.86 as of December 31, 2025. Anderson will send letters to local
banks regarding the February 20, 2026 certificate of deposit maturation date
    and the upcoming bidding window.
  • Reviewed the annual circulation report, which reflected 40,200 books
    circulated in 2025.
  • Discussed developing QR codes to help patrons more easily access online
resources such as Wayne County Outlook, Ancestry, HeritageQuest, and
    Teachables.
  • Reviewed and approved an updated job description for the part-time Library
    Cataloger position.

The Wayne County Public Library Board will next meet on Wednesday, February
