Wayne County Sheriff’s Office looking for Suspect in Recent Robberies

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron the ongoing
investigation into the burglary at Cumberland Green Valero
Convenient Store, the attempted burglary at the Highway 90 Shell
Convenient Store in Bronston, KY. and also for burglarizing the
Belk’s Department Store in Somerset, KY. back on March 7,
2026, has resulted in two Wayne County District Court Complaint
Warrants of Arrest being issued in this case.

Originally Wayne County Sheriff Office Deputy Zachary Bybee
responded to the burglary complaint and began the investigation.
But to scheduling conflicts Deputy Bybee turned this case over to
Deputy James Barnett. Several tips were received and followed
up on from the Sheriff’s Office Facebook post of the unknown
suspect. Deputy Barnett obtained additional video footage from
Cumberland Green Valero showing the suspect had entered the
store twice, and from Belk’s with the assistance of Detective Larry
Patterson with the Somerset Police Department who was
investigating that burglary. After also seeing the Facebook post by
Loss Prevention employees at the Monticello Walmart Store they
contacted the Sheriff Office. Loss and Prevention provided video
footage from February 12, 2026, where the same suspect in all of
these cases had shoplifted while using the same vehicle. Deputy
Barnett then opened a theft case on the suspect from the Walmart
incident. Using jail photos from previous arrest and the video
footage of the suspect Deputy Barnett was able to positively
identify the suspect as James Davis-Scott Gurley of Nancy, KY.
Deputy Barnett working with Detective Patterson located the
vehicle in the Nancy community at the suspects relative’s
residence. The suspect was not there at that time but additional
evidence was obtained.

Deputy Barnett then filed for and obtained two Wayne County
Criminal Complaint Warrant of Arrest through the Wayne County
Attorney’s Office for Gurley. The first Criminal Complaint Warrant
was for the Cumberland Green Valero for the charges 2 counts of
mischief-1st
burglary-3rd degree (felony), theft by unlawful taking or disposition
all others ($1,000.00 but less than $10,000.00)-(felony), criminal
degree (felony) and possession of burglary tools
(misdemeanor). The second Criminal Complaint Warrant was for
the Walmart theft on the charge of theft by unlawful taking or
disposition-shoplifting (misdemeanor) with the suspect still at
large at this time.

We are still asking for the publics help in locating Gurley. Attached
is a photo of him and one of his arm tattoos. If anyone knows
where Gurley maybe located, please call the Wayne County
Sheriff Office at 606-348-5416 or dial 911 from any location.
Detective Patterson will also being presenting his investigation
case into the Belk’s burglary to the Pulaski County Circuit Court
Grand Jury in the coming days.
