WC School Board Hears Audit Report

The Wayne County Board of Education met Thursday evening with all members and Superintenent Don Neal present.

The Board approved the Audit as presented by Artie White of White and Associates of Richmond, KY.

White said the School’s finances were “all positive”, with a 25 million dollar budget, and current contingency funded at over $962,000.

The Board voted to gather information on the purchase of two tractors, one for the Ag Department and another for the Maintenance Dept. School Transportation Director Justin Alley will report back to the Board with information and pricing on the Tractors.

The Board heard a second reading of a policy to Amend the Process of setting an Agenda for regular meetings. The Vote was three to zero with two abstentions. The Policy calls for the Superintendent to meet with the Chairman of the Board and School Principals at least 11 days before regular meetings to set the Agenda. Board Members Tony Roberts, Benton Sloan and Richard Ramsey voted in favor of the Policy update with members Jerrod Criswell and Joe Hancock abstaining.

The School Calendar Committee was set for the 2025-2026 school year. Benton Sloan recommended the inclusion of Justin Alley, Rebecca Humble, Kevin Jones, and a board member on the committee was selected . The board decided to retain Joe Hancock as the board representative.

The Board honored long time Attorney Gordon Germain for his 34 years service to the School. Germain served as School Attorney under eight Superintendents.
