The Monticello City Council met Thursday night in regular session with Mayor Kenny Catron and members Tracy Sexton, Racel Chaplin, Alan Hopper and Jamie Ragan in attendance
By a 3 to 1 vote, the council passed a second reading of an Ordinance amending the current 2025-26 budget.
The other Ordinance on the Agenda, a second reading of a 2026-27 Budget was read but no vote was taken due to questions by the Council concerning figures in the Budget about the Monticello Utility Commission.
The Council did vote to create a new Assistant Fire Chief/Alcohol Beverage Control Investigator position. The new position will have hourly pay with the hire to be made by the Fire Chief with approval of the Mayor.
Mayor Catron introduced Sydney and Julie Denney who are working on a contract basis updating records to get a 2025 Audit to the Council, as well as a 2026 Audit.
The former Clerk Treasurer. Chris Dykstra is no longer employed by the City.
The Council also voted to open a checking account for an expected 5 million dollars in grant money to be received on a gas line project.
