The Monticello City Council met last night for their regular monthly session.
The Council passed a second reading of a Natural Gas Ordinance. The Ordinance sets up a 20 year franchise bid opportunity on the 20 million dollar project that will bring natural gas to Monticello.
The Council heard a first reasding of an Ordinance setting Tax rates for 2026. The Real Estate tax will drop from 11.70 cents per $100 valuation to 11.30. The Personal and Tangible tax rate will drop from 14.56 to 11.30 cents per $100 valuation and the Vehicle andwatercraft tax will remain the same as the previous year.
The City reported $539,035.83 in Alcohol Sales for the month of July. The City collected $27,450.23 in regulatory fees for July
In the Police Report, 685 calls were answered in the month of August including 116 alcohol related complaints
In the August Fire Report, the Monticello Fire Department answered 40 calls in the month.
The Council heard a first reading of a Budget Ordinance for 2026-27 and also heard a reading of a resolution for the Department of Local Government dealing with documents for the 2023-24 audit which is expected to me complete by October 1rst. That measure passed by a 3-2 vote of the Council
