The Monticello Wayne County telecommunications board DBA CTS met last night for its regular monthly
session. The Board by a 4 to 1 vote, voted to move ahead with a project that would provide CTS services
to a portion of Wayne County and Clinton County including the Rowena Marina. The project would be
funded by Grant money and the Marina and give CTS up to 186 new customers as well as the Marina
service. The project would not cost CTS or its customers anything to build as $250,000 in ARC grant
money will come to CTS through the Clinton County Fiscal Court as well as $65,000 from the Marina will be used. The project would cover 3.1 miles in Wayne County and 8 miles in Clinton County. Jonathon Dobbs was the lone no vote on the project.
The Board voted unanimously to hire Barry Daulton CPA for an audit of the past fiscal year.
Member Dobbs brought up the CTS Board is operating without a 7th member. The Board has three City
appointed and three county appointed members. The Ordinance forming the Board calls for the CTS
Board to add a 7th member, and Dobbs nominated Stewart York for that position. York’s nomination passed by a 4 to 1 vote with Alan Hopper the lone no vote.
It was the first meeting for new board member Jerry Neal, who was appointed by the WC Fiscal Court members.
Hopper raised question about Neal’s position on the Board as member Steve Hutchinson has not resigned
from the position Neal was nominated too. Hopper also noted Board Members appointed by the City
have to be made by the Mayor with approval of the City Council, and County members have to me made
by the Judge Executive with approval of the Fiscal Court. Neal’s appointment was made by magistrate Dobbs and
approved by the Fiscal Court.
In manager Calvin McFarland’s report, he noted fiber to home construction continues on McKinley Sexton Road
and Sunset Blvd as well as the Duncan Valley area on KY 167.
