The Wayne County Fiscal Court met Thursday evening for its regular monthly
meeting, with County Judge Executive Scott Gehring and all magistrates present.
During the meeting, magistrates approved the removal of 975 feet of Young Road
in District 1.
County Finance Chief Dawn Harmon presented the first reading of the fifth
amendment to the Fiscal Year 2026 budget. The amendment includes unbudgeted
receipts totaling $234,773.60 for the general, road, jail, LGEA, and ABC funds,
along with matching expenditures in the same amount.
Judge Gehring requested and received approval to place a second radio repeater
for Wayne County EMS on Spann Hill at Sam Shelton’s communications tower.
The repeater will cost $100 per month and will serve as a backup in the event the
primary repeater becomes inoperable.
Magistrates also approved the annual Order of Affiliation for the Wayne County
Rescue Squad, formally establishing its responsibilities and chain of command and
granting the squad authority to operate within the county.
ABC Administrator Shelbi Mitchell reported her office received $1,238 in
December revenue, completed two compliance checks, and assisted three
businesses in obtaining tobacco, nicotine, and vapor product licenses.
EMS Director Sherwin Corder presented his monthly report, noting 339 calls for
service in December. EMS billed $233,653 for the month and received $104,375.
For the year 2025, EMS responded to 3,800 calls, including 2,850 within the city
and 950 in the county. Total billings for the year reached $3,341,969, with
$1,476,257 collected. EMS also received $115,977 in grant funding during 2025.
Jailer Ronnie Ellis reported a current inmate population of 156, including 105 state
inmates, 45 county inmates, and six inmates from Clinton County. The jail billed
$130,283 for December and received $155,093 for November.
The next Wayne County Fiscal Court meeting is scheduled for February 12 at 6
p.m. at the Wayne County Courthouse.
