The Wayne County Park and Recreation Board received updates on several improvement projects
during its May 26th meeting, including repairs at the Aspire Center, upgrades at local
sports facilities, and new security measures at the park.
Parks and Recreation Director Shane Blevins told the board the Aspire Center is in
need of a new roof due to severe leaks. Insurance officials have been contacted and
quotes are being gathered for the project.
Blevins also reported a new 16-foot gate is being acquired to improve access to a
storage building purchased by the Monticello Tourist Commission and donated to the
Aspire Center.
Officials said work continues on the tennis courts, with completion expected by the end
of June, while the local women’s club is working to place benches near the pickle ball
courts.
The public pool at the Aspire Center was unable to open over Memorial Day weekend
because of weather conditions, but is now open.
Board members also heard newly installed security cameras at the park are
operational and pricing is being obtained for an additional camera.
April financial reflected $1,040 in Aspire Center rental income, along with $3,300 in
concession sales and $1,510 in credit card revenue.
